Occupational English I-IV

Occupational English I-IV is a series of non-standard classes, which are designed to develop essential reading and writing skills needed for independent living and successful employment. Reading focuses on decoding and comprehending information for successful community inclusion. Writing emphasizes comprehending and using written information to communicate effectively.

 

Occupational Math I, II and III

Credit: 1 per course

Grade: 9-12

Weight: Remedial

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation

Occupational Math I, II, and III are a series of non-standard courses designed to equip students with the math competencies needed for independent living and successful employment. Content standards include math skills such as numerical operations, decimals and fractions, basic geometric concepts, and basic calculator skills. Essential workplace competencies and applications are emphasized as well as independent living needs such as budgeting, personal finance, and banking skills.

 

Occupational Science I, II

Credit: 1 per course

Grade: 9-12

Weight: R

Prerequisite: Recommendation from teacher

Occupational Science I, II are a series of courses that focus on science and health related issues. Occupational Science I will explore personal health and well-being, learn safety and first aid procedures, and study topics of illnesses, substance abuse and nutrition. Occupational Science II will focus on family life topics that include changes with puberty, relationships and family planning.

 

Occupational Social Studies I, II

Occupational Preparation I & II:

Credit: 1

Grades: 9-12

Weight: Remedial

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation.

Introduce students to skills, behaviors, and habits needed to obtain and maintain employment. Students will participate in school-based learning activities that will include on-campus jobs and work-based learning activities.

 

Occupational Preparation III & IV:

Credit: 1

Grades: 11-12

Weight: Remedial

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation

Continue the development and application of job skills learned in Occupational Preparation I and II. Community-based training and other job shadowing experiences allow students to apply employability skills to competitive employment and a job placement portfolio’s required for successful completion of the Occupational.

 

Personal Finance (Formally -LIFE- Living Independently Through Financial Education)

   Credit: 1

   Grades: 11-12

   Weight: S

   Prerequisite: None

Prepare for independent living as a young adult by studying relationships, spending money, planning and cooking meals, selecting an apartment or home in which to live, basic clothing care and repair, and the essentials or parenting.
